Not Quite What I Had In Mind

This past week was supposed to be my annual week down at the farm helping with baby goats. It was difficult this year to plan this trip, due to e-mails not getting through and busy schedules. Finally, we found this one week which was perfect timing, and a week and a half later, I was on my way down there.

The trip started  out ominously enough, with snow storms on Sunday as we drove there. But, I made it there safely, and that evening started my short adventure. Going back out to the barn, doing chores, feeding some older baby goats......it was wonderful to be back.

Monday dawned bright and sunny. We had the first kids born on Monday, and I was once again alone in the house when it happened. I probably could have done that birth by myself, but I felt better having her daughter there to help. The first doe to freshen had triplets - to bucks and a doe. As I watched the first little boy come out and heard him start bleating, I couldn't stop the huge smile of joy and wonder that covered my face. I never get tired of seeing that most incredible miracle, life, starting right before my own eyes.

Two more kids were born that day, and we were kept quite busy with feedings and chores and everything else needing to be done.

Tuesday was another sunny day, but I didn't get to see much of it. At the end of doing chores, I started feeling lightheaded and almost fainted a few times. The rest of the day was spent on the couch feeling more and more ill as the day went on. However, I did hear that another set f triplets and twins were born that day.

Wednesday I woke up exhausted and feverish, and decided it was time to come home. Before I left, though, another little boy was born, making a total of 11 kids in 2 and 1/4 days.

Although my time there was cut short, I did so much enjoy the little that I did get to spend, and I most certainly miss all those little white kids!

These kids are three weeks old and very hungry!
These are all 11 kids that were born; all huddled together under the heat lamp.

By now they have realized that I'm standing at the door, and that mean food!

So there you have it........a few days of goat happiness!

Sorry to hear that your trip got cut short, especially due to sickness. Looks like it was still memorable, though.
